NEW YORK, NY – Alex Foster’s Condition
Longtime jazz saxophonist and performing superstar Alex Foster is stepping out into the spotlight
once again, taking the reins on an exciting, fresh musical project destined for success. While assuming
the role of bandleader, his latest LP of tantalizing genre-defying jazz and alternative, Alex Foster’s
Condition is finally ready to the world to hear. Signaling his first solo record since 1992 and featuring an
incredible lineup of seasoned musicians behind him, this 10-track album is a window into the future of
contemporary jazz fusion from a true rock star saxophonist.
With a laundry list of impressive accomplishments and musical credits, Foster has made a career out of
saxophone performance and songwriting for over 35 years. He’s remained a cornerstone of the Saturday
Night Live band for 23 years as an alto saxophonist, while also appearing on The Late Show with David
Letterman, Carol Jenkins Live and more. Foster also lent his talents for smash hit albums like Paul
Simon’s Graceland and Sister Sledge’s We Are Family, as well as landing a Grammy for Best Big Band
Album with Mingus Big Band.
As he continues to grow musically, Foster’s image as a rock star saxophonist balloons throughout the
jazz and big band scenes, making him a lasting influence throughout the contemporary landscape.
Alex Foster’s Condition sees the woodwind veteran breaking free from typical jazz song structures
and boundaries while exploring components of alternative, rock and fusion. Supported by fellow SNL
bandmates James Genus on bass and Shawn Pelton on drums, alongside Michael Wolff on piano, Costas
Baltazanis on guitar, and Jeff “Tain Waits on drums, the group pools their collective talents together for
a truly gripping musical experience.
Former collaborator and veteran jazz drummer Jack DeJohnette was one of the many to speak out
following the album’s release. Most recently seen on Grammy winner Esperanza Spalding’s Radio
Music Society, he said “Alex Foster’s Condition is an organic recording delivering a full spectrum of high
quality original music from Alex and his bandmates! The interplay between Alex and the group is really
a pleasure to listen to. I have listened to this recording many times and am confident that Alex Foster’s
Condition is in excellent shape!
The cutting edge LP is currently available through digital retailers such as CDBaby, although a physical
CD release is planned for the near future. Foster and company are scheduling a series of club dates for
the summer months, as well as full tours for the early portion of 2013, including a visit to Japan with
The Mingus Big Band. Streaming audio is available on Foster’s official website along with live videos on
YouTube, and fans can keep up with all of the recent news on Twitter @Alexfosterlive.
