FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Los Angeles, California – November 17, 2016 – In this Year of The Monkey, singer-songwriter Will Joy has released “The Monkey Underneath The Mistletoe,” a three minute musical jab at the Christmas tradition of kissing under the mistletoe. Joy uses a walking bass, horn section, bells, kissing sounds, and a sample of actual monkeys to create what he hopes will become a part of our collective songbook of funny Christmas songs.
Nearly everyone has a holiday memory involving mistletoe: some good, some bad, some worse – remember that childhood incident with an overly perfumed great aunt? Here’s a little ditty to accompany the annual mistletoe ritual. Inspired by a visit to Southern California’s Santa Ana Zoo (also known as “The 50 Monkey Zoo”), Joy also dug in to his own childhood memories to make the song, “When writing this song I flashed back to my parents calling each other ‘monkey’ as a term of endearment. I remember being quite embarrassed by their antics when I was growing up but now that they’re gone it’s one of those memories that really sticks with me. In a way this song is a tribute to them.”
“The Monkey Underneath The Mistletoe” is now available on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, YouTube Music, and most other streaming services.
