Singer-songwriter Martin R. Howell (aka JohNNy SiZZle) many call him the Wesley Willis or Daniel Johnston of Canada. One thing is for sure when watching Martin play you will definitely be leaving entertained and repeating I never heard anything like that before. Martin began his career exclusively playing underground Punk. Playing only Punk and Metal venues in the early 1990’s. What’s so different about that you ask? Martin created and performed his music all solo on an acoustic guitar. Radical and ridiculous and undeniably different are words to describe the music of JohNNy SiZZle. Starting his career in Winnipeg he began hitchhiking to Montreal, Toronto then passing through NYC. with a brief stay in Sudbury well still touring all over North America with hundreds of different bands. Martin then ended up in Vancouver for 4 years working at the infamous Cobalt hardcore Bar from 2001 to 2004. Finally returning to his roots Winnipeg in 2005. That took 11 years, 5 wigs, 2 wrestling masks and countless beers and cigarettes. All the while unknown to Martin during this time was living with Schizophrenia and Bi-Polar Disorder. When returning to Winnipeg he was diagnosed and treated for these conditions. Martin R. Howell is constantly writing new songs with a small period of rest to deal with his long untreated mental illness in the early 2000’s. In 2011 Martin came back and has been doing his brand of gutsy performance, who will say anything on stage to no fear and entrancing poignant lyrics to match. After facing his mental illness he has begun to embrace and twist the punk genre further by not only playing his trademark acoustic hard punk style, but he is now creating a punk genre played with electronic toy instrument Casio Keyboards.
