K-Lon wrote his first rhyme when he was seven; he wanted to see if it was something he could do. Since then K-Lon hasn’t stopped writing. As K-Lon grew older he started recording his music on tape players, his mother’s computer, recording in studios and finally his own personal studio. Realizing music was his passion; K-Lon began pursuing his vision, which is to have his music heard around the world.
During 2015 and 2016, K-Lon was on the road recording music with P-Funk (George Clinton Band) and his grandson Trey. K-Lon has also performed at various venues. On August 14, 2013, K-Lon performed at the Legendary Apollo Theater where he had the pleasure of opening for Kool Moe Dee. In 2003, he performed at the Peace Fest in Rochester, NY. In 2006 and 2007 he performed at the Rochester Carifest. In 2006 he opened for Curtis Blow in Rochester, NY. He has also performed at the Black Music Fest, Juneteenth Celebration, Flying Squirrel, Julius Café, SouthWest Fest, Peace BQ and Café Underground Railroad just to name a few (All located in Rochester, NY).
Recently, K-Lon and his wife started a record label called “Black Soul Records”. Black Soul Records is here to bring out the true soul of the artist/musician. Everyone has a story to tell. Currently K-Lon’s music is being sold at The House of Guitars, located in Rochester, NY, and many online stores such as I-Tunes, Amazon and Google music. His music is also available for streaming on Spotify and Xbox Live. He also has three books in progress; one entitled “Through Her Eyes”. When K-Lon says, he is a universal artist, HE IS!!! Because he does it all; draws, paints, acts, sings, writes and raps. And most of all K-LON is an INVESTOR!
Before K-Lon picked up music, art was his passion. As soon as K-Lon could hold a pencil, he began drawing. He attended The School of the Arts, in Rochester, NY for visual arts and graduated in 2006. K-Lon has done murals and painted traffic boxes around Rochester, NY and many individual pieces of paintings and drawings. You can see some pieces of his work here.
In 2006 K-Lon placed 1st in the New York/New England Oratorical Competition in Buffalo, NY and placed 2nd in dramatic interpretation at the 45th annual talent hunt in Rochester, NY. In 2007 he placed 1st at the Peace Fest Rap Competition in Rochester, NY.
He is actively engaged within his community. He runs a program called Read 2 Record; a program where youth read for 30 minutes, write a paragraph about what they learned and then they can record for free. They have also started an organization called One Village which is a group of individuals educating each other to become community reliant.
During black history month, K-Lon portrays Frederick Douglas in a play entitled “Walk the Walk”. He has also been seen in three plays entitled “In Times like These”, “Every Thug Needs a Lady” and “Housewives of Gospel”, all presented in Rochester, NY. He was also in an independent film, which was released in April 2012, entitled “Naïve”, where he portrays the character King David.
