The Quills present a poignant examination of our world through an eclectic, Alternative Rock sound with influences from Soul, R&B and Funk. The group leaves no stone unturned with lyrics that range from the deeply profound, to the socially conscious, to the downright ridiculous. The Quill met through a mutual friend that was collaborating with each of them on both mutual and separate projects. Ryan approached C’Quil and Gus and proposed a collaboration in 2015. Ryan and Gus submitted a demo of Hyd’N, the story of C’Quil’s father’s downward spiral prior to his passing. Hyd’N is the first single of the trilogy: ‘Before a Beginning, An Ending’. A year later they met for the first time for a studio session on Vashon Island in Gus’s ‘Music Box’ studio. Shortly afterward, they recruited Ernie Adams as lead percussionist. Ernie is a world renown jazz drummer and Professor of Jazz at the University of Illinois, Chicago, IL. The Quills create their music virtually swapping files from coast to coast. Ryan samples, mixes and masters their sound with his own ‘Mysterioso’ twist. The Quills met in Chicago a year later to record at SAE Institute and Tribeca Flashpoint a year later to record with James Auwarter and his team. Studio videos were shot by Patrick Brown. The Quills have recorded enough material for at least 3 albums.
The Quills first release ‘Lenny’ won Radio Airplay’s Song of the Week.
The Quills released the following five songs in 2017: Lenny, Blooming in New Orleans, Reverse the Prism, Amniotic Hot Tub and Stop, Drop & Roll.
The Quills have accumulated over 8,000 listeners so far on RadioAirplay.
