Artist Interview: Yung Clypto
Tell us about yourself and your music
Devin Little (Born May 1, 1998), better known by his stage name “Yung Clypto”, is an American hip hop recording artist from the West End of Galveston, Texas. As a kid, Clypto has had many problems in school and out which eventually lead him to gaining a citation at the age of 10, and being expelled at the age of 11. While moving from school to school he grew quite fond of music, rap music in particular, in which he started to write and record using a pair of iPhone headphones. In 2012, Clypto received his very first recording microphone and laptop, on which he released his secret mixtape “1 Throne”. At this time, Clypto went by the name “Big D Da Monsta”, later changing it to “Big D Da Don”. In the summer of 2013, Clypto changed his name to the current name we all know. That same year he released his second mixtape, “Alter Egoz”, getting a decent amount of buzz. However late 2015, Clypto released his third mixtape named “In The Meantime”, which got a large buzz within his hometown due to it being on the popular mixtape site “Spinrilla”. Building off that buzz he released his fourth mixtape, “Hotter Than Fire”, on January 5, 2016.
Talk to us more about your latest release
My latest release was a song by the name of “Pass Me By”. It was produced by Bless Brian who sampled a peice of Brianna Babinaux’s cover of the gospel song “Make Me Over”. It is a song about my struggle with life and religion, all while asking God not to pass me by due to my sins.
What inspired you to write this release?
I go through so much as a low class to middle class citizen. I heard the beat and was like “I can really make a powerful song with this”. So that’s how this song came about.
Any plans to release a video?
Honestly, I don’t know but I really want to. Also, if I do I already have a concept.
Any plans to hit the road?
If I’m booked to any city, state, or country then of course I will.
As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?
I have a whole team who promotes for me along with a whole team who does my prices, booking, and other inquiries. My style itself is different from every other artist. I’m versatile when it comes to making songs. Which means, I can make any kind of song from gospel to rap.
Who have you been listening to lately?
I’ve been listening to a bit of everything, mostly underground artists.
Tell us about your passions
Money and taking care of my family. Nobody can replace that, and I can’t put nothing above that, NOT EVEN MUSIC.
What else is happening next in your world?
I’m really looking forward to new music from not only me but other artists as well. Also, I plan on going on tour and taking a vacation over seas, while also performing in that country.
Thanks for an awesome interview, Devin!
