Artist Interview: Wilson and Kerr
Talk to us more about your latest release
I have a Roland 24-track at my house. One of our favorite recent releases is one of mine called, Before this Day is Through. A live performance of that song is include in this interview.
What inspired you to write this release?
Writing songs about life experiences is the entire motivation for being a writer. I guess you could say we are inspired by the gift we were given that enables us to write songs. Creating something from nothing inspires every artist; dancer, painter, poet, actor, singer/songwriter, etc. Not to mention the fact that it’s just so much fun!
Any plans to hit the road?
Again, I was paid three times the money 25 years ago as the clubs are paying now. We are also getting along in years. We would consider a road trip if someone was willing to invest in what we have to offer. Until then, local venues keep us sharp.
As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?
I believe that harmony sets us apart from the norm. We’re not hearing enough sweet harmony these days; it’s been awhile. We cut our teeth on the Beatles, so we tend to emphasize the power and magic of three part vocals.
Who have you been listening to lately?
I’ve been around awhile so it’s a long list. Some of my favorites are the Beatles, Crosby Stills and Nash, Jason Mraz, the Police, Motown, and on and on and on. What excites us more than anything is the young Singer/Songwriters that keeping popping up from nowhere with new songs and styles. I take great solace from what has become a very clear message for us; music is not dead and never will be. Music is about being human; can’t get anymore real than that.
Tell us about your passions
I am a fisherman. Cannot imagine a life without fishing. Aileen and I are also avid gardeners. Each summer, in our backyard, we grow and process almost all of our vegetables and fruits. They last us an entire year. It is truly amazing how much food you can grow and store. Solves a plethora of problems from eating healthy to drastically reducing our food expenses.
What else is happening next in your world?
Write, record, and perform till we drop. There are miles and miles of talented young folks to pick up the mantel and continue to inspire generation after generation with the magic of making music.
Thanks for an awesome interview, Tom & Aileen/Chuck!
