Artist Interview: Teezy620
Tell us about yourself and your music
Allow me to introduce myself,…
My name is Timothy John Martin, however, most people usually know me by my Rap name, Teezy620. I was born in Garden City, Kansas but I was also adopted at birth so two days later I was rushed off by that family to go to my permanent home. Which ended up being in a small Kansas town by the name of “Liberal”. Located almost at the very most Southwest corner of the state, Liberal is basically in the center of what a lot of people would call, “The Middle of Nowhere”.
Nonetheless, my hometown happens to be quite famous around the world for three different reasons, The Wizard of Oz, Yellow Brick Road & International Pancake Day. What’s “International Pancake Day” you might ask? Well, that is a story for another day…
As for my music, I wrote my first song at the age of eight. From a very young age, even before I wrote down the lyrics to my first song, I knew in my heart that I wanted to be some type of a ‘Mainstream’ entertainer. Like a singer, rapper, songwriter or movie director. Something. I just knew & felt like I was born or destined to be more than the average individual.
Years later in 2009. The second semester of my Freshman year of high-school to be exact. That was the year I made the change from pursuing a career in playing football, to trying to become the first rap & hip-hop artist from the state of Kansas, to sign a record deal with a Major Label.
Talk to us more about your latest release
My latest release is titled “Sights from the Plains”, & is off of my debut mixtape project “Sights. Penacho on the production…
What inspired you to write this release?
It is a vital part of my thirteen track, tracklist for “Sights”. All of the songs on the tape tie in together. Not only to tell my story but also to let everybody that listens know where I came from as well. Because, I am a firm believer of, “You can’t forget where you came from!”, because where you ‘come from’ is actually one of the most important aspects of your life. That is what begins the foundation of building the person that you are today & helps you become an even greater person tomorrow.
Any plans to release a video?
Yes. Actually, I plan on releasing thirteen different music videos to accompany all thirteen tracks, on my upcoming debut mixtape project, “Sights”.
These videos shall also then be released in a periodicly strategic manner, one by one, following the March 13th release date of the tape.
Any plans to hit the road?
Yes. I plan on hitting the road for a Tour later in the year. A few months or so after I release “Sights”. It will be my first official Tour, funded from the hard earned dollars in my own pocket & will encompass seven cities. These cities & dates are TBA…
As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?
I just do me. Other artists are irrelevant to a certain point, with some exceptions of course. I have a strict rule for myself as an artist. I WILL NOT rap it if I have not lived it. I am a firm believer in keepin it a hunna!
Who have you been listening to lately?
Joker Too Cold, 2 Chainz, Young Dolph, Mozzy, Migos, CDot Honcho, Bankroll Fresh, Dae Dae
Tell us about your passions
I just love to wake up & start the day off with a good breakfast. Then I think about my mental ‘To-Do-List” for the day. After that I just do everything in my power to stay focused & remain productive throughout the entire day. Being productive is a passion.
The strip-club, trappin & juggin out the “Telly” are three of my passions as well.
Also, boxing, the NFL & the NBA are also passions of mine.
What else is happening next in your world?
Release “Sights”. Then follow up with a vigorous post-release-promotion & advertisement campaign, along with all of the music video releases after that. Then finally, the seven city, “Sights from the Plains” tour later this year! (TBA)
Thanks for an awesome interview, Timothy!
