Artist Interview: Spikey Apples

Artist Interview: Spikey Apples

Tell us about yourself and your music

Originally from Ukraine, now living on Staten Island, A rock chauvinist in music as I believe all music is great but rock is greatest 🙂 The best thinker you never heard of and best blogger you never read(yet)

Talk to us more about your latest release

“I just wanna make love to you” is a cover of the famous originally jump blues tune by Willie Dixon, a song that seems to be the most diversely covered ever. Ours is a modern style EDM version, notable also for my partner Ivan Markovsky using only samples, without a single original sound, to compile the instrumental track. No mean feat itself, it’s further interesting that samples are taken from Russian rock and pop songs, thus serving to raise awareness of rich wealth of former Soviet popular music stage

What inspired you to write this release?

The song is one of the best ever, and being among the midst of great artists covering it, from Muddy Waters and Rolling Stones, to Etta James, Adele, Foghat and many others, is a huge honor, also, I won’t lie, I hope this will be the project that propels me and my partner Ivan to stardom 🙂

Any plans to release a video?

I’d love to, but we’ll need to put together a crew, concept, finance to back the project up and so on. toward that end, any help will actually be greatly appreciated 🙂

Any plans to hit the road?

Not at this point, though we have many musician friends on each of our sides and are constantly in search of personnel to probably out together a band or two. So nothing is off the table in the long run

As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?

I am originally from former USSR and possess different perspectives on things, musical and other.

Who have you been listening to lately?

Nirvana, Jethro Tull, great Russian bands like Kalinov Most and Piknik, and many more, really impossible to number

Tell us about your passions

Politics(not so much everyday as ‘grand scheme of things’), especially what’s going on in my native Ukraine, Religion and other intellectual and spiritual pursuits. Sports, especially soccer. Justice (which I may sometimes view in a bit different way from predominantly accepted). Making world a better place, I guess.

What else is happening next in your world?

I am actively blogging, I am a poet and translator, including poetic–many songs I recorded and many more I want to record eventually, are translations. I actually plan on soon putting out a Russian version of ‘I just wanna make love to you’ 🙂

Thanks for an awesome interview, Aleks!
