Artist Interview: Smith Street
Tell us about yourself and your music
My Birth Name is Jaron Rashaad Smith. I was born and raised in Brooklyn N.Y. East Flatbush area. I grew up in the 90’s, Artist Like Micheal Jackson, R.Kelly, BabyFace, Whitney Houston, and BoyzIIMen to name just a few are who influenced and inspired me early on, when I did get to listen to RnB. For along time I wasnt even allowed to listen to “Worldly Music” .
Smith St. comes from my last name and it represents a lane that I have carved for myself.
Talk to us more about your latest release
My Latest release is 3 songs,”Box Of Love”, “I See You” and ” Let It Burn” which has a Lyric video. It’s a prelude to my upcoming EP, “33 Smith St.”
What inspired you to write this release?
When I worte “Let It Burn” It was self healing, it was a form of theropy and I wanted to inspire ppl to be strong in who they are.
‘I See You” is imaginary Lol, I guess you can say I was writing what I want.
“Box Of Love” is written from a story telling aspect
Any plans to release a video?
Yes, I’m planning on releasing visuals. I’ve set up a GoFund and linked to my Lyric video to help with editing and promotional cost.
Any plans to hit the road?
As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?
This realese is my 1st so I’m learning as I go. I just plan on being myself. Creating music that reflects me and my story. I want to be Current without blending in.
Who have you been listening to lately?
Hoenestly Nothing. I’ve been kinda focused on this. I may check out a spotify playlist to see whats new, but for the past few months or so I’ve been unplugged.
Tell us about your passions
I love creating so that could mean a meal or a DYI project. I just love to make things and it makes me feel good when they are appreciated.
What else is happening next in your world?
I’m working on a live streaming show, dont want to give away to much but i have a few ideas I’d like to share with the world.
