Artist Interview: Scarecrowz
Tell us about yourself and your music
I am from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. raised in the country, but grew up in the city. Been playing for 28 years. wrote my first song lyrically at age 14, musically at 15. Have played a few bands over the years from rock to Metal. Currently in the band I help form 17 years ago, Scarecrowz. I also work on a side project, GASM for 20+ years now as well. to date, I’ve written or co-written approximately 1000+ songs. 150 have been recorded thus far.
Talk to us more about your latest release
We are following up our last release, Uprising (fall 2012) with a new record entitled “Refuel” coming out in 2017. So far we have release a couple of demo versions including “Octane” and “Chicks in White Pants”. Octane is a driving song for people on the go and to get them pumped for where their journey is going to lead them. Chicks in White Pants is more a summer song of observation of visions of vixens who make heads turn. We are hoping for a full album sometime in the spring/early summer.
We also released a single in 2014, “Reborn”.
What inspired you to write this release?
Anything that happens in this world whether it be from my own realm or the one outside.
Any plans to release a video?
we have done ones for Tiebreaker (2015 preview video) and Octane (last video we did). we will look into our options when the rest of the record comes out soon.
Any plans to hit the road?
Yes, once the album is prepared for release we will look into tour dates. We are also fielding offers for our vacant lead guitarist position.
As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?
It’s not easy. we’re between a rock and a metal place. We are essentially a hard rock band, but dable in the metal genre with some tracks. We explore areas that some other artists may not through lyrics or business opportunities.
Who have you been listening to lately?
I listen to everything. Anne Murray to Metallica. Don’t matter as long as it’s music and good music at that. Bands lately I have been into are Black Country Communion, Monster Truck and Alter Bridge.
Tell us about your passions
I like movies, boardgames, watching Hockey and I am a big history buff.
What else is happening next in your world?
I am discussing with my partner in crime (GASM) on an E.P. release of some material they never was previously available and how to release it now that the physical format industry seems to have tanked. Right now, I pretty much have my hands full with scarecrowz social media updates, artwork for the new album and layout, recording and mixing to finish. been a long time so looking forward to writing some new material have a have a few ideas stored up.
Thanks for an awesome interview, Ger!
