Artist Interview: PlayBoySwag
Tell us about yourself and your music
PlayBoySwag is an entertainer who is from Harlem, NY. During his teenage years he spent time in Jacksonville, Florida, long enough to be influenced to do music by Po Pimp record “Backseat Of My Caddy”. PlayBoySwag returned to Harlem and found himself on a basketball scholarship at a college in Upstate New York. Upon linking with someone who had music connects, he left school and pursued music full-time. This led to him writing “Choppa Down” with French Montana, and working with hip hop notables including Nipsey Hustle, Yung Berg, and Smoke Dza. Over the past year, he appeared on Jim Jones recent release featuring Fred Da Godson “2 Keys” off his “Kitchen” album. Additionally, he has performed the past 2 years at SXSW on the Smokers Club stage and Vydia. He also help brand billion dollar bicycle company Ofo Bicycles from China.
Talk to us more about your latest release
PlayBoySwag will be releasing his newest single “M.Y.B.S.” which is abbreviated for Mind Your Business. It will be released through PlayWorldMusic Inc. The record addresses haters as he navigates the industry with a name like PlayBoySwag and after one listen you can tell exactly why he calls himself that. This is scheduled for a May 28, 2017 release.
Prior to this, he released a mixtape called “No More Favors”, as a slap to those who he has helped but not been reciprocated. His lead singles “30 for 30” and “Columbia”, were both featured on Hip Hop Weekly and Vive respectively
What inspired you to write this release?
PlayBoySwag was inspired to release this project to showcase his ability to create songs over any kind of production, particular smoothing out the trap sound.
Any plans to release a video?
Yes. Currently locations and acts are being picked for a new shoot and the video for the upcoming single will be released in July.
Any plans to hit the road?
At this time, upon the release, PlayBoySwag plans to follow the airplay story of the record and going to the cities that request his music most.
As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?
PlayBoySwag brands himself by promoting health, selecting a name that others would not choose, and targeting records that will gain radio play and entertain the listeners . He also conducts community events in his hometown appearing when he can.
Who have you been listening to lately?
Lately, Play has been listening to himself. He does not want to be influence by the popular.
Tell us about your passions
The park. PlayBoySwag is a park workout guy who strives to be as healthy as he can be. He believes in eating right, but time to time takes part in a drink or two, but nothing too extreme.
What else is happening next in your world?
He ran his own demolition business where he cleaned out buildings being prepared to be renovated. He also is trying to visit more countries and learn about a culture that is not often talked about, he is taking suggestions.
