Artist Interview: Melk
Tell us about yourself and your music
I’m from a foreign country that most people in the States are unfamiliar with”Suriname” (the only Dutch speaking country in South-America, a neighbor country to Brazil), moved to Miami, FL right after I turned 20, lived their for a while before returning back to Suriname, my current residence.
I’ve always had a passion for music but that passion grew into creating, writing and recording my own music at the age of 16 and grew stronger as I got older.
I’ve just been bettering myself ever since into what it has become today and I’m very appreciative of that and all the work I put in to get this far, it definitely makes me feel good about myself as an artist.
I make music that speaks to my soul and spirit whether it’s Trap School, Trap, Club or Conscience music, I never fail to connect with fans period. That’s just how I approach the process of creating music.
Talk to us more about your latest release
My latest release is special, thoroughly, it must be my best work thus far.
The delivery, mood and feeling you get listening to it is associated with a whole lot of bliss and just makes you wanna get up and dance.
It’s the type of song you can start your day off with on a happy note.
I’ve been getting amazing feedback from fans all over and people who heard it so far as well as well known music industrie professionals and was told that this project might take off for real.
What inspired you to write this release?
The inspiration behind this release was a song I did a few years ago “Bust With Me” with a somewhat similar topic but less intriguing delivery regardless of it’s prodigious lyrics as well as a Platinum record by Lil’ Wayne (Love Me) I did a remix on.
I’ve always had a strong desire to write more songs like that and this is one of them that fortunately came out as nice as it is.
Any plans to release a video?
The video should be dropping this year, there is no release date yet but I can promise you that as soon as there is I will announce it on all my social media channels and website.
The fastest and easiest way to stay up to date with anything new regarding me is still to visit my website melkrhmm.wix.com/real-hustla-music and sign up. Fans that sign up always get the news first and are eligible to receive free merchandise and free tickets (sometimes VIP tickets) to my shows.
In the meantime you can listen to the audio video on YouTube.
Any plans to hit the road?
First I will start touring in my country of birth (Suriname) and hit up Europe right after starting with The Netherlands (Amsterdam) and hopefully sooner than expected The US.
There are no official dates yet, like I just mentioned earlier the best way to stay up to date and find out first is by signing up on my website.
As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?
I use methods that most artist ignore or have no knowledge of.
I wont go into details as in how exactly I do it but I pretty much design a strategy and put in the necessary work.
Who have you been listening to lately?
I’ve been bumbin to some Meek Mill, Rick Ross, Ace Hood, Drake, Lil Wayne, 2Chainz, Tory Lanez, Future, 2Pac, Usher, and some of the trending music you hear on the radio everyday.
Tell us about your passions
I love basketball and sports in general, a good NBA match up could jump start my day off with some excitement wondering if my team will pull off a win. LOL
I use to play basketball myself, I still got game LOL, on some off the Wall John stuff.
Swimming is a favorite too, Football and Soccer.
What else is happening next in your world?
I plan on attending a program and get a MBA. It’s something I always wanted to do since I never liked working for a boss and instead become a business owner.
Thanks for an awesome interview, Stephen!
