Artist Interview: Kuro Silence
Tell us about yourself and your music
My music is very much rooted in reality. I like to focus on the inner workings of people’s thoughts, actions, and emotions, and the reasons behind them.
Talk to us more about your latest release
My latest release is my mixtape titled kid. Kid is something of a look into the life of the “modern” adolescent. Growing up in this era and dealing with the increasing ease of access to more mature settings.
What inspired you to write this release?
Moving around in my city. I was lucky enough to have many perspectives of life here without the consequences. I know a lot of people, all with connections. I see how they move, interact, and communicate. I see how that affects them and what they do to live with that, I may not be involved, but my homies are and that gives me a wider view than just a pigeon hole version of “Oh I’m that dude in the streets” or whatever. I actually see how that makes them act beyond just the streets, and I want to capture that in my music.
Any plans to release a video?
I’m trying to get that situation squared away, but for now, no. I say that because I want my videos to have meaning to them, and I’m just not inspired enough to do that right now. However it is definitely a priority, I’ll definitely look into it on my next release though.
Any plans to hit the road?
I’d definitely love to hit the road, but I’m trying to set up a stable situation right now. When I’m thinking long term and can afford to you’ll see me on stages.
As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?
Honestly, it’s difficult. As an indie artist I have to follow the modern sound to stay relevant, so whereas I would approach a project the way I want to, I have to move with the trend. It a balancing act, I need to stay relevant and stay true to me, my sound is always changing, so I tend to shake my style and modify it alot.
Who have you been listening to lately?
Everyone on TDE
Tyler the creator
Tell us about your passions
The opportunity to do something new.
What else is happening next in your world?
Well I just moved so that’s kind of chaotic, but I’m still recording and working on myself
Thanks for an awesome interview, Kuro!
