Artist Interview: Herman Martinez
Tell us about yourself and your music
I am a multi-instrumentalist/singer/songwriter, originally from New Jersey, now living in Georgia. Going on 18 years writing and performing music. I try not to let myself be tied down by genres despite being influenced by many different kinds of music including classic rock, heavy metal, folk, jazz, blues and anything weird you can throw at me. Bloggers have called my style ‘Progressive Grunge’ but I might break that mold as well.
What inspired you to write this release?
Life. I couldn’t stop writing if I tried. It just calls to me. It lives inside of me. It connects me to parts of myself I would otherwise not have access to.
Any plans to release a video?
Any plans to hit the road?
I’ll be home till the new album is done. After that the possibilities are infinite.
As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?
It doesn’t take a lot to stand out, I’ve always been a big weirdo musically. Whether or not it catches peoples attention positively is a different story.
Who have you been listening to lately?
Steven Wilson, Storm Corrosion, Smashing Pumpkins, Bjork, Temple of the Dog, Ghost of a Sabre Tooth Tiger, way too many to list here.
Tell us about your passions
Anything art, I paint and sketch, I also do tattoos for a living. Meditation, yoga, eating right.
What else is happening next in your world?
Just trying to be good to the world and not be dragged down by all the political negativity being shoved down our throats.
Thanks for an awesome interview, Herman!
