Artist Interview: Dream Eternal Bliss

Artist Interview: Dream Eternal Bliss

Tell us about yourself and your music

I have been a professional or semi-pro recording artist for over 20 years now, mostly recognized in the world of progressive rock as a guitarist from the band Days Before Tomorrow. But recently, I wanted to focus more on my keyboard work and embrace my other love — New Wave — and created Dream Eternal Bliss to deliver a catchy blend of new wave meets prog rock meets modern rock. Something with 80s influences but delivered in a more contemporary fashion.

Talk to us more about your latest release

Our 2016 debut EP could be summed up sort of like this: imagine combining Duran Duran with Rush, then asking Stevie Nicks to sing for the new group. As we’ve been developing new material for a full-length record to be recorded in 2017, we’ve gotten a bit heavier, a bit more modern, and we’ve also embraced a bit of disco in the grooves. Our songs are catchy with big hooks and melodies, and you can hear classic influences, but we don’t sound truly retro, and never imitative.

What inspired you to write this release?

Wanted to embrace my love of classic new wave without abandoning my love of progressive rock.

Any plans to release a video?

We have one video for now… simply shot in our studio. Hope to shoot a more story-telling video when we’re ready with the first single from the next record.

Any plans to hit the road?

Later in 2017, hope to play shows up and down the East coast.

As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?

By creating a sound that is truly unique to us and not following trends, we stand out with a sound that is uniquely ours. You can hear our influences, yet we don’t sound like them.

Who have you been listening to lately?

I’m all over the map. Over the past few days, my album list (I listen to full records all day while working), includes the latest releases from Blackfield, The Birthday Massacre, Berlin, The Mute Gods, Queen, and One Direction. This morning the new Def Leppard live CD just came to my desk and I can’t help enjoy it. Then I’m also super excited that Lady Gaga is performing at the Super Bowl. Really, love melodic music in many genres.

Tell us about your passions

Running/biking/swimming, skiing, photography, technology, and of course family and my young kids.

What else is happening next in your world?

Outside of DEB, I just launched http://www.musicianfinder.com, a new website designed to help musicians connect with each other: bands looking for members, musicians looking for bands to join, musicians looking for recording session work, sub gigs, or just casual jams. Right now, we all struggle so hard trying to find people to collaborate on music with. MusicianFinder.com is designed to make finding musicians as easy as online dating.

Thanks for an awesome interview, Scott!
