Artist Interview: DJ Ross tha Boss
Tell us about yourself and your music
I’m a female DJ/producer from a small down in Louisiana. I’ve been DJing for 5 years and producing for 3 years. My music has always been different to me because I never want to make the same type of music all of the time. My music usually ranges from electro house, big room house, trap, progressive house, jungle terror, dubstep and who knows what else I’ll decide to make next. My music always goes by the way I’m feeling while I’m making it. If I’m feeling like making some dirty, hard music then I’ll make dubstep.
Talk to us more about your latest release
My most latest release was actually a remix that I made for a remix contest! But if you’d like an original track, my track “Serenade” is more of a relaxed, love type of track. I wasn’t sure if I was going to put it out or not but eventually, I decided to just post it. It was originally just going to stay on my computer.
What inspired you to write this release?
Honestly, the only thing that I was thinking about while making this track was my partner.
Any plans to release a video?
No plans so far. I’ve mostly been getting music visualizers done by other talented people for my music and DJ sets lately.
Any plans to hit the road?
No tour dates so far.
As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?
Well I know for sure that I’m the only black female DJ/producer that makes and is into the EDM scene as heavily as other people are. As long as I can make the crowd go crazy and have a great time during my set, that’s all that should matter. I’m not the typical female DJ that you see in the clubs that are super feminine and barely wear any clothes and wears a bunch of makeup. I’m a lesbian tomboy that doesn’t care what others think of me and I plan to become just as big as the other DJ’s and producers that I look up to and see. I plan to make history happen in the future.
Who have you been listening to lately?
Since I’ve been getting into dubstep lately, ive been listening to music like slushi, flux pavilion, excision, doctor p, and many more people that make grungy dubstep music and hard trap.
Tell us about your passions
Well my only passion is music but to be funny, the only thing that gets me out of bed in the morning is my dog. Other than that, music is my only passion whether isn’t DJing, producing or playing my drum set. It’s always dealing with music.
What else is happening next in your world?
Well I’m working on moving to Dallas within the next couple of months. Once I move their and hopefully get some gigs, I’ll be able to put out some dates for future gigs. Other than that, I’ve been busy making new music and waiting for my label to give me a thumbs up when I can release a new track.
Thanks for an awesome interview, Brittany!
