Artist Interview: Crystall Babii
Tell us about yourself and your music
Half Barbadian and half Trinidadian Crystal McLeod was born on August 17, 1996 in Brooklyn New York to Bernadette and Junior McLeod. At the age of 10 Crystal’s family decided to move to Hagerstown, MD from Brooklyn. While in Junior high school, Crystal would listen to Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Jay Z, Run DMC, Method Man & Snoop Dog which were some of her major influences which started her rapping and singing. While playing Basketball at North Hagerstown High School, Crystal would sign-up at talent shows throughout Maryland. She was runner up out of 900 young girls in Ms. Young Maryland talent contest. In 2008 crystal began to write and record her own songs. It was then when she met Damon Smalls who seen how special she was and began to work with her on her music career. In 2016 Crystal has performed in cities throughout the East coast, wining music showcases and building her fan base with Hot songs like F. W. U, Hot Boy, Red Roses, Back and I’m Better and Gucci In My Bag. Now at the age of 20 Crystal is ready to take her career to the next level. Crystall Babii and ATeam Music have teamed up with Dwaine Downton and Oralndo Flintroy from FTP Music Group to take her music and career to the next level. With a style and image of her own, Crystall Babii’s music will be the next big thing to come out of the DMV area.
Talk to us more about your latest release
My latest release would be my song “Back and I’m Better” which I wrote in 2016 after going through a breakup that left me pretty devastated. This was a blessing because I grew stronger in myself which helped me create a song meant to uplift girls and guys.
What inspired you to write this release?
After going through a devastating breakup that left me confused and hurt beyond measure, I found hope and love within myself that helped me grow stronger over the days then weeks.
Any plans to release a video?
We released my “Back and I’m Better” music video last year in 2016 which was amazing.
Any plans to hit the road?
Definitely. We are set to hit the “Next To Blow” Pre-Grammys event happening Feb 11th, 2017 in Los Angeles- The Great Club AIRLINER, 2419 Broadway @3:30pm.
I’m also performing at the RockFest in Austin, TX March 15th-18th, 2017

As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?
To brand myself as an artist my team and I came up with a logo that would stand out and make fans feel proud to wear it and promote me to their friends, family and followers.
Who have you been listening to lately?
I listen to all types of music but lately FettyWap and RaeSremmurd have been on my playlist.
Tell us about your passions
I have the most supportive parents and knowing that each day I wake up with their 100% support in what I do makes all the difference.
What else is happening next in your world?
Well My team and I are working with From Absolute Artist LLC to take my career global. We are looking at touring Europe and Asia by 2018. Our next goal is to take over television and tour with larger artist to be their opening act.
