Artist Interview: Calvin Ross
Tell us about yourself and your music
All in all I am a well preserved individual. I like my space and time to be occupied only with the things that truly matter to me. I was born in Jackson, TN and stayed in Detroit a few years and now reside back in my home town. The music I make is aimed mostly toward those who have witnessed heartbreak, pain, discomfort, and separation in many different forms. I also like to sing about love and life, the good and bad parts of both.
Talk to us more about your latest release
My latest release is titled “Lost Love”. It’s a song that could apply to anyone whether they have witnessed losing a loved one, or a relationship that has gone bad. Everyone has witnessed “Lost Love” at some point in their life.
What inspired you to write this release?
I was in the studio listening to some tracks and I came across the one that you hear in the song. In out in the mind frame of the fact that I have lost love on more than one occasion throughout my life. So I chose to express it.
Any plans to release a video?
Yes, I plan to have a visual completed by the end of February. Within this video it will give more details of my personal experience with the subject of the song. So make sure you look out for it to experience a piece of my life.
Any plans to hit the road?
I won’t be hitting the road at the moment. I’m busy in the studio getting my full length project together.
As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?
I basically just stick true to what is me. I know this may sound a little cliche but I have a lot of personal experiences that I haven’t heard anyone speak on in the music industry. My goal is to bring those subjects to life through my music, images, videos, and social accounts.
Who have you been listening to lately?
Lately I’ve been listening to August Alsina, me and him relate on a few different subjects. The Weeknd, I like his artistry. NF, I like the topics he speak on and the way he is transparent with his music. And lastly 6lack, he is fairly new to me but I like his vibe how he speaks about his experiences.
Tell us about your passions
I really enjoy reading. I like to read just about anything that I can learn something from. Other than that I don’t do too much outside of what’s musically oriented.
Thanks for an awesome interview, Calvin!
