Tell us about yourself and your music
Buscoby Don is a reggae/dancehall artiste who’s given name at birth is O’Neil Greaves. Born at the University hospital in Jamaica on July 07,1982 to parents Harold and Mervia Greaves. O’Neil has two older brothers, Andrew and George Greaves. He grew up in the Sherlock community of Kingston 20 Jamaica, where he attended the Duhaney Park Primary School.
O’Neil’s passion for music has now led him to the compilation of his first dancehall album titled, “Mistaken Identity”. The project is set to be fully completed by Sept. 2017 and will contain sixteen tracks in total. Currently establishing his place in the dancehall genre, the artiste have pre released a few tracks to the public on social media sites, creating fans and giving them a taste of what Buscoby Don music is all about.
It all started at Meadowbrook High School where O’Neil attended along with best friend, J.O.P. artiste, SizeTen. The two would write songs and deejay for friends after school. It was like their little after school jam. This led to the realization of the talent for music which quickly then led to the development of a passion to perform and please an audience. At home, the fire never stopped burning as O’Neil grew up around other talented artists such as Villa Dutch, Baby Cham and Voicemail’s very own O’Neil Edwards who passed away on May 26, 2010. RIP!
Buscoby Don migrated to Canada at the age of fourteen years old in order to acquire a higher level of education. This however, had never dampened his passion for becoming a dancehall artiste. He completed his studies in the field of Information Technology and now returns to Jamaica to continue the pursuit of his dream, doing music professionally and creating fans.
Upon his return to Jamaica, O’Neil immediately formed a group called Moscow’s Finest. The group consists of Rustic, VersiTerry and O’Neil himself as Buscoby Don. Their style of music as a group is unique as it combines Rap with R&B and Dancehall all in one package. From singles to collaborations, they began feeding the Moscow Waterhouse community with a consistent supply of music, quickly establishing a name and reputation for themselves in the community. The Mistaken Identity project is now simply another step towards the goal of dancehall artiste, Buscoby Don, who is seeking to one day be signed to a major label and performing at Sting!
Talk to us more about your latest release
A track called Sick A Road is currently the artiste latest released track. The track is about an incident which took place in the Sherlock community of Kingston Jamaica and will forever be in hearts of community members and party goers as several individuals were detained and sent to jail for further prosecution. The track highlights one individual who took the weight of all the burden on his own shoulders to ensure the release of friends and family members. Big up K.J, we long await your return!
What inspired you to write this release?
This track was inspired by and incident which took place in the Sherlock community of Kingston Jamaica. Several individuals were sent to jail for a gun found into a pot of soup, by law enforcement officers. One individual now takes the charge for the firearm and I was therefore inspired to do the song as a tribute for him to be remembered by all of us as Sherlock community members.
Any plans to release a video?
A music video would be a nice visual highlight for the song and what it is all about. However, due to the fact that it is more geared towards a community highlight and not a artiste highlight, as an Indie artiste I have to pay more financial attention to my highlight as an artiste. I will eventually do a video but one is not currently being planned at the moment.
Any plans to hit the road?
I do not have any concert or tour dates at the moment.
As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?
Buscoby Don is an artiste known for creating consistent good music in the Reggae or Dancehall genre. I seperate myself from other artists by ensuring that any topic I choose to write about, is always well thought out and pre-planned before hitting the studio. This ensures that all my music contains a clear message which may be interpreted as intended.
Who have you been listening to lately?
Current male artists I pay close attention to are: Maestro Don, Bugle, Masicka and Popcaan.
Current Female artists I pay close attention to are: Vanessa Bling, Starface, IShawna and Tiana.
Tell us about your passions
During my time of leisure, I enjoy playing Basketball or Soccer and if neither is available, I will find myself glued to the couch enjoying and excessive dose of Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter on the Playstation.
What else is happening next in your world?
Currently I am learning the process of producing, as I would one day like to be able to produce my very own music. Mix and Master it myself. This will allow me to more understand and personalize the process of music creation so that I may create music with more feelings.
Thanks for an awesome interview, ONeil!
