Artist Interview: Blacc Japan
Tell us about yourself and your music
I’m Blacc Japan, 22, From Wilmington Delaware. I self produce all my music and write all my material in the bedroom of my apartment. I initially started producing and writing my music while I was suspended from school in 11th grade. I’ve always been musically oriented being in choir and chamber choir throughout my years in school. My music sonically is a mixture of hip-hop pop rap, RnB, and Trap.
What inspired you to write this release?
As I previously stated before you got it is about me and my ex had broken up. It was a random a day in April, it was warm and sunny and it was a great day and then we got into it about something that I’m sure that was so irrelevant and minuscule because I don’t even remember what it was that we were arguing over… but it turned out to be a great song so that’s all I care about!
Any plans to release a video?
Definitely videos are going to be something that I’m going to put out in the future. Right now I just haven’t had any videos to come out with because I’ve been so busy recording and make sure the music is right first before I put a visual to it.
Any plans to hit the road?
As of late I haven’t had anything but I had only perform twice in New York in the last year; in Staten Island and Manhattan but there will be shows and dates very soon .
As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?
I really don’t have to try to brand myself. I think people , either in person or on social media, are just drawn to my appearance and want to get to know more because I give off this mysterious, enigma-ish vibe I suppose so that makes people want to delve into it and know me more. There’s always something that you just would never think that you would think about me or that you would know.
Who have you been listening to lately?
I love love love Rae Sermmurd, Travi$ Scott, Tinashe, Sza, Drake… anyone who can give me my daily vibes.
Tell us about your passions
What gets me out of bed in the morning is failure. I am not OK with that and I won’t settle for anything less in life and I want and will be the best at what I love to do. There’s so much more to me than just music ; I wanna have my own series of books and video games/tv show, as well as my own clothing line and fragrance. so music is just the beginning of my greatness.
What else is happening next in your world?
What’s happening next is me wrapping up the recording of my project that will be out hopefully very soon and from there performing and videos, and building my brand , sharing my vision and creativity to the world!
Thanks for an awesome interview, Rian!
