Artist Interview: Big V – the Great!
Tell us about yourself and your music
My work is a reflection of the kind of person I am, it’s really hard to describe since most of the time I completely focus on doing the best with what I have at the moment. I know that it is Hip-Hop, definitely Hip-Hop! For anyone who knows what that means, they understand that it goes beyond rapping, it is a mindset, a perspective, a way of life…
d surprised a lot of people who had designated a kind of style for me! I like playing around, I mean work has to be fun, if you ain’t enjoying it then it’s a job!” condition=”isnot” value=””]
Talk to us more about your latest release
My most recent release is a single titled Skroplap, it is not part of any project or album, it really a stand-alone song. The word “skroplap” is slang for rag or old dirty rag, it is also used to describe a small part-time job. So far as this song is concerned, I’m using the word in reference to a rag, which is a rude metaphor for a kind of woman…
The song is really new, and surprised a lot of people who had designated a kind of style for me! I like playing around, I mean work has to be fun, if you ain’t enjoying it then it’s a job!
What inspired you to write this release?
Well… To be honest I was really annoyed with this bad trend some of the women in my surroundings have, it still gets to me. In any case, as much as the track is kinda humorous the subject matter is not really funny, the point here is that slutty is not sexy… Another thing is that not all men are looking nor interested in cheap and easy hook ups, not all men are attracted to characters, some of us really love and appreciate being around individuals.
Any plans to release a video?
I released a video for “The Joke” on the first week of January, I really love that song (okay I love all of my songs, but this one is a personal favorite in Late Submission). I’m planning to release my 3rd and last video from Late Submission sometime around March, I’m still not sure, we’ll see, I do however know that the song will be “Day Off” and that’s my jam!
Any plans to hit the road?
Performing and going around is always a yes, however, at this moment I don’t have anything big scheduled.
As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?
I really just take advantage of what everybody else is not doing! Honestly, when everybody is trying hard to be perfect I flourish from exposing the imperfections. There’s a lot of us in this business, it gets to a point where certain things become basic or just uninteresting so I focus on grabbing the eye, and what does that better that peculiar? This works for because my style is not really orthodox.
Who have you been listening to lately?
Just now I was listening to Charles Mingus and Wynton Marsalis, but this past week I’ve been jamming a lot of Vertical X, Frickle Morrow, and I also had the honor to hear Kage the Aesthetic’s new track, these guys are killing it! I also have been listening to Prodigy, Fire Starter and Breathe, those tracks are my jams. Elsiane, Mick Jenkins, Ramson Badbones, Mr Key, Nostalgia 77,
