Artist Interview: BANDLER CHING
Tell us about yourself and your music
We are a 4 piece Alternative rock band from London, frustrated with the lack of real rock bands in the past decade, we took influences from a whole range of genres including hard rock, grunge and nu-metal and are trying to create a nostalgic sound by writing heavy guitar riffs combined with a grooving rhythm section and a blend of harsh and melodic vocals.
The band consists of Jake on guitar and vocals, Dan on lead guitar, Harley on Drums and Rob on bass.
Talk to us more about your latest release
The last song we recorded is a song called ‘Pandemonium’ which we self produced and followed our first release ‘Marionette’ which is the song that started the band. Our latest track is our heaviest song and is an explosive hard rock track that will take you to another dimension man.
What inspired you to write this release?
‘Pandemonium’ was originally written as a jam track that came completely out of nowhere. It was just what we were feeling at the time and this is what we composed. The lyrics are kind of a parody of stereotypically whiny grunge songs, we would always get compared to grunge bands by friends and what we did with ‘pandemonium’ was embrace that.
Any plans to release a video?
For ‘Pandemonium’ there are currently no plans to make a video, but that doesn’t mean we wont in the future. Something about homemade music videos make us cringe, as shown by our first attempt for our track ‘Marionette’. There are however some live tracks on youtube from previous gigs which you can check out.
Any plans to hit the road?
If you want to experience groovy vibes our next gig is on the 24th of Feb at Cargo in Shoreditch.
As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?
We don’t really care to be honest, we are not trying to compete, we just wanna make some cool original music that people can enjoy. We do our own thing.
Who have you been listening to lately?
I’ve been listening to a lot of Nu-metal and Hip Hop recently, artists like Snoop Dogg, Cypress Hill and Korn. Harley is into Mac DeMarco, Dan likes a lot of 70s rock bands, and Rob listens to a lot of different stuff from rock to hip hop.
Tell us about your passions
We don’t get out of bed in the morning, most of us wake up late and stay up late. Our bass player is really into skateboarding, he trains kids to skate. Harley loves train spotting, Dan likes training to be a better guitarist, and I like trainers.
What else is happening next in your world?
We are planning on recording a bunch of demos just so we can have decent recordings of our music to share. We’d love to play a festival and get our music to a wider audience. We do this gnarly cover of ‘Talk Dirty’ by ‘Jason Derulo’ which may come as a shock to people but i assure you our version is pretty cool and thats probably the next song were gonna release.
Thanks for an awesome interview, Jake!
