Artist Interview: Jester mccool

Tell us about yourself and your music

I am a local Southern Californian born and raised. I started playing guitar at age 14. I learned to write with credibility in the late 90s. My music starts with very simple progressions in order to accomodate the other layers of instruments. I write very straightforward and seldom fictional. I believe in placing hooks as often as possible. It may be repeating a key phrase or a simple lead melody.

Talk to us more about your latest release

My latest song is called electric smile. The recording I have is simply acoustic and vocals. Although I plan to record an electric version this rec ording has a life of its own and I felt I should release it as is.

What inspired you to write this release?

I saw a woman with the most amazing smile and the song almost wrote itself. The timing for this woman and I was not there and reflect that in the lyrics

Any plans to release a video?

Yes I shall be releasing a video in the near future.

Any plans to hit the road?

At the time I will not be hitting the road. Next year I plan on a short tour. Studio work is much more important to me.

As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?

I try to keep simple hooks that stick in the brain. Usually with a keyboard in a frequency range that stands above the rest of the tracks.

Who have you been listening to lately?

Ive been listening to the Killers and Death Cab for Cutie lately.

Tell us about your passions

I love to do art. I work with graphite and have become very good at it.

What else is happening next in your world?

I am soon going on a journey to Joshua Tree to check out their music festival. I do an annual desert trip and usually end up playing Joshua Tree Saloon. This year I will be seeing the 30th anniversary tour of Joshua Tree at the Rose Bowl before heading to the desert. Perfect!

Thanks for an awesome interview, Wayne!
